A gorgeously scenic run through the Blue Ridge Mountains that straddle the Tennessee-North Carolina border await runners at the Great Smoky Mountains Half Marathon, which makes its second annual running in the late summer along a very gradual climb near the entrance to the national park just outside Knoxville.

The course for the Great Smoky Mountains Half is a beautiful run through the woods just outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The course begins near Heritage High School in the Hubbard Community outside Maryville and ends in Townsend, just under a mile from the National Park boundary. The finish line is at the lot next to the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center in Townsend with beautiful views of the mountains.
Miles 9 – 12 will stay mostly on the main road, moving to side trails when possible, and this is where some of the hills come in. There is a 364 foot elevation gain on this course. It is a subtle and steady gain. Along these last few miles you have a few ups and downs.

OPEN COURSE: This race is an open course. There will be cars on the road as well as runners. DO NOT step off the course into traffic, you will be disqualified. We want you to stay safe.
